CNC Turning

Here at Pegrex we combine more than 70 years of engineering expertise and experience with a commitment to taking advantage of the latest technology and delivering the highest levels of customer service.

Our CNC Turning Solution

We’re equally at home delivering high specification items for clients in the aerospace and defence industries as we are working on finely crafted metalwork for items of jewellery, giftware and lighting.

In many cases, clients come to us with a detailed plan and we make that plan a working reality. Often, however, a client will have only a rough initial sketch, and our range of expertise is such that our in-house design team will be able to work with them in order to turn that sketch into a detailed plan. Alternatively, we can reverse engineer an existing component in cases where plans are not available and create an exact duplicate. The CNC turning, we provide is just one part of this overall service.

CNC turning is also known as Computer Numerical Control turning, and refers to a manufacturing process which combines high impact tooling with complete precision. It removes material from a piece of metal utilising a high powered cutting point in order to create the features of the item in question, which might include threads, slots and tapers. It’s a method which uses lathes such as turret lathes and special purpose lathes, and the individual tools in question can deliver features like facing, threading and grooving.

In addition to CNC turning itself, we’re able to offer our clients a full-service partnership, working with them to design and create the item they need no matter what stage of development it has reached when they come to us.

    How We Can Help

The initial stage of any CNC turning involves creating a computer aided design (CAD) based on existing designs, initial sketches or a plan drawn up through reverse engineering. Our expert designers use state of the art Solid Edge software to create this CAD, producing a plan which includes details such as the specifications, geometries and dimensions.

Once the CAD has been signed off by the client the information it contains will be extracted by computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software which turns the details of the plan into data which can then be used to control the CNC turning equipment. The machine can then be run and will produce an item which meets the specifications required exactly. An initial prototype can be created in order to test the concept of the design and iron out any issues before full scale production takes place.

The clients who return to us time after time appreciate the fact that we can combine CNC turning with the other services we offer – which include hand finishing and CNC press braking – in order to create genuinely bespoke items. Each client can pick and choose from the expertise on offer in order to enjoy a tailored solution.

We’re equally at home delivering specific components to tight deadlines as we are providing full-service project management and consultation. Our unique combination of skills means that we can deliver quality solutions to demands which are niche and highly specialised, whether that means visually stunning designer solutions for the jewellery and giftware sectors or precision engineering which means that we are a NATO certified components supplier.
